Living a double life

As a mother of 2 young children, a home owner, a wife and human being, I find myself wanting it all and striving to achieve it all. Here’s a brief look in how I find success in balancing everything and being happy with my life choices.

Work-life balance is something we need

In today’s world, with the ease of accessibility to our work, via email and mobile, I find myself in constant struggle with that invisible line ; where does it get drawn ? I recently had a career overhaul to benefit my family.
A mother’s struggle between career and family is always present as we are often the primary caregiver. This was the same for me ; I left a career I was passionate for and excelled at. It was scary and unsure but the positive aspects that my new role have brought to me are making me successful in my family life which in turn, provides me the reassurance to be successful in my career.

Tips in Prioritizing and Organizing

As a full-time working mother, I have divided my life in two aspects: work and home.
While at work, I give it my all !
This in turn, provides me with the flexibility of not having to answer emails and calls (that’s what voicemail is for) during me time. Me time encompasses the following : enjoying my children, cleaning my home, cooking for the week and being with family and friends. This is where scheduling is a key to my success and my happiness. I try to make boring things (like errands) fun to do with the kids, since neither my husband nor myself see them all week. Scheduling things in, as follows, makes the weekend production :

Friday evenings : I plan my weekend (with my hubby).
Saturdays : I do the necessities – groceries, errands and cleaning. I also get my kids involved as a game. My evening is dedicated to my husband !
Sundays : we have fun, we relax as a family and we prepare our meals for the week.
My week : I leave my house every morning at 6:30 and home by 5:30pm. Our dinner is already ready because of the meal preparations. We get to eat as a family and enjoy the evening together.
We are on a loop and will most probably be doing this for the next 10 years. I made choice to have children and to be a career-oriented mother.

It works ; as long as you make it work. I have never felt guilty of leaving my children to go to work. You can have it all and be happy but know that some sacrifices need to be made along the way.

It’s all about finding the right fit for you !

I have come to the realization that because something works for me, it might not be ideal for you and vice versa. One needs to find the right fit. Happiness in the work place will generate happiness in your life. If you take anything else from this article, please remember that 🙂
