Making the Most of a Recruiter's Services

Job searching can be discouraging and sometimes frustrating. However, a recruiter can be a valuable resource in landing the job of your dreams!

"I've worked with a recruiter before, but they never sent me anywhere."

To maximize the services a recruitment firm can offer, you must first understand how recruiters operate and what they can really do for you. Recruitment firms work in partnership with companies, and their mandate is to help fill vacant positions within the organization.

If a recruiter doesn't have a job that matches your skills or experience, they won't call you. It doesn't mean they don't like you; it just means they don't have an opportunity for you... at the moment.

Your CV

If you want to send your application to a recruitment firm, make sure you've held a similar position throughout your career, as mentioned on your CV. Clearly explain your tasks using key words and precise terms, similar to the job description. Only relevant CVs appear in our search.

Note: We don't recommend altering your current job title, as that would be dishonest, but simply describing your tasks accurately for each role you've held.

"I know I'm a Buyer, but I'd really like to be a Designer."

Apply for positions you're qualified for!

Some candidates want to move into roles very different from those they currently hold.
If you apply directly to a company, they might see something in your CV and consider you for those roles.

If you apply through a recruitment agency, most often, you won't succeed. Why? You may be convinced that your skills are transferable and that you can do the job with your eyes closed. However, a recruiter is specifically hired by a company to help find candidates that perfectly match their needs. That's the added value we bring to our clients.

"I've applied there before, but I've never received a response."

If the recruiter you're working with specializes in a certain type of position or industry, check that before applying directly to a company. How many times have you sent your CV to a company without ever getting a response? It's frustrating not knowing if your CV was reviewed, rejected, or even reached the right person. A recruiter can help with that. We have many contacts with hiring managers and decision-makers. We can present your CV to the right people and, even better, serve as your cover letter. We let them know why they should consider you and what you can offer—something no one else can do. Before applying directly to a company, start by contacting us... we might just have that little extra "something" you need.

Finally, never forget to stay active. Recruiters can be excellent partners in your job search, but we aren't the only way to find your dream job. Do your own research! If a recruiter doesn't have a connection with a particular company, apply on your own. Use your network, introduce yourself, and tell them why they should meet with you! Don't hesitate to sell yourself!

We hope these tips will make your job search easier!
